June 1948

The June meeting of the Carroll Garden Club was entertained by the New Windsor group at the home of Mrs. Charles Hesson on Wednesday, June 23rd nineteen hundred and forty-eight.

Meeting opened at  two o’clock by our President Mrs. Speicher reading a poem.  Eighteen members responded to roll call. Minutes were read and approved. There being no business except for the invitation by the McKinstry’s Mills group for the September meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. James Snyder, the President turned meeting over to the program chairman of the afternoon, Mrs. Charles Hesson.

Mrs. Hesson, a former treasurer, remitted one dollar and thirteen cents ($1.13) to our present treasurer Miss Mildred Zumbrum– a balance that had been left in the New WIndsor bank while she was in office.

Miss Jane Englar sang “Rose in the Bud” and “The Bells of St. Mary’s” accompanied by Miss Marianna Snader.

Mr. Donofrio, owner of Carroll Gardens  in Westminster, presented by means of slides, pictures of his Iris, Poppies, Peonies and Tulips–flowers which can be planted from now until the end of the season– and also gave an interesting description of each as they were being shown.

Refreshments were served following which Miss Englar sang another selection “Because”.

Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Buckey told about the Pilgrimage in May through Frederick County homes. Some of them visited were the Smith, Harris, Baker, Clagett, Rose, Winebrenner, Mathais, Lappington, White, Hines and Gov. Johnson.

Adjournment was next in order.

Respt. submitted,

Mrs. Walter Speicher, Pres.

Ruth K. Zollickhoffer, Sect.
