Garden Therapy Report

The Carroll Garden Club has been doing a project with the seniors at a day care facility in Westminster MD for a number of years.  I personally have been doing the project for 10 years.  Nancy Heiberg originated the project and took the lead for a number of years before.

We typically have 20 to 25 clients each month.  My committee and I (there are usually three or four garden club members helping ) and others who contribute flowers and garden surplus when asked are very willing supporters.

We have a very seasonable approach to our projects. Our gardens are our inspiration. We try to keep a variety of activities going. Our main purpose is to get the clients talking as we visit with them.  Hopefully we bring back memories and make some new ones.

Our/my goal is to give them a product that they can take pride in taking home. They are encouraged to share what they do and make theirs as personal as possible. The times that they get the most excited are when we put real flowers in their hands.  Our committee has repeatedly told me how much joy they get seeing our clients light up while working on their projects.

Shown are three of our projects.  The snowman was what we did in February,  \the black and white card was January’s project.  The Allium drawing was a project from last summer.
