CGC November 1955

(The program, not mentioned in Minutes,  was apparently Christmas Arrangements according to the 1955 Yearbook)

Mrs. Lehman Milly was hostess to the meeting of the Carroll Garden Club, November 2, 1955. There were 15 members present.

Roll Call was answered by various garden hints, suggestions and questions.

The Minutes were read and approved.

Mrs. Speicher gave a treasurer’s report of $212. 43 in the treasury, $15.00 paid to the Community Chest, leaving a balance of $197.43. The treasurer’s report was accepted.

Mrs. G. Edwin Dowell, Chairman of the Membership Committee, read with regret the resignation of Mrs. Kendall Spoerlein–it was moved, seconded and passed that we accept this resignation.

Mrs. A. Earl Shipley is Director of District V for the Christmas Greens Show and Mrs. Lehman Miller is Club Representative. This show is being held at the Baltimore Museum of Art, December 16, 17 and 18.
Carroll Garden is responsible for decorating one of the rooms with some help from the Club. Mrs. Lehman Miller will do the decorating.
Mrs. Barnes says we are urged to sponsor a Junior Garden Club.
The names of the new members of the Club which had been named previously were voted upon and given a unanimous vote. Mrs Haines, Corresponding Secretary, will write to invite them to join the Club.

We had a discussion on the new amendment–raise of dues to $2.00 which will cover three things:
1. Maryland Gardener sent free
2. Raise in per capita allotment to the District V organizations.
3. A budget for each State chairman so that the work of the federation can go forward properly.
The amendment shall read: Garden Clubs shall pay $2.00 per member to the Federation Treasurer of which proportionate amounts shall be returned to the Clubs.

Mrs. Sebastian called out attention to being a member of Springfield State Hospital Auxiliary–a motion was made, seconded and passed that we send $5.00 to the Auxiliary.

Mrs. Shipley and Mrs. Barnes attended a board meeting of District V Federation which was held in Howard County at the home of Mrs. Hakes. Mrs. Barnes gave a report.

There will be a House Pilgrimage Tour during the holidays and Garden Pilgrimage, December 30, Dickeysville.

Mrs. Sebastian made the announcement of the meeting of Federation and Luncheon at the Sheraton-Belvedere, November 16, reservations to be in November 4. Course III Flower Show Judging, November 9,10 and 11.

Mrs. Barnes’ announced the Daffodil Spring Flower Show, April 24, 1956.
Our next meeting at the Historical House, December 7, 9:30 A.M. to decorate for Christmas, followed by a tea at three o’clock, with an invitation extended to the new members to attend the tea.

Mrs. Buckey called a program committee meeting immediately following dismissal.
