Here’s lookin’ at you, kid!
I’m always hopeful of finding mantis egg cases and getting them to the hatching stage. They sure are cute when they are tiny. Once full grown, the mantis can certainly be a large insect. It has a most alert way of watching you; the head tilting seems almost like my dog when he is watching me. This mantis was on a pitchfork. We put it in a near by forsythia. I’d swear some sci-fi movie creatures are based on this critter.
