We met at Joan Epler’s to carpool for our fieldtrip. While waiting for late arrivals, Joan beckoned, “Come and see my yellow rhododendron!” So Gayle, Nancy and I wandered on the velvety green grass to the other side of her yard and gawked at this beautiful primrose yellow rhodie and nearby, a past-prime but still lovely blue hued azalea.
Joan’s springtime yard is testimony to the years they have spent at their lovely home and to her status as a serious Master Gardener. Here are some pictures of her azaleas and a few other May spring bloomers. Perhaps she will comment on the cultivars she is growing here…
- Azure azalea
- Don’t know that variety of rhododendron, but very fresh looking!
- Planted a long time ago, says Joan.
- I wonder if these are “Hershey Red”?
- Her primroses are perennial. I need pointers.
- Mix of colors by the driveway
- Bleeding hearts by the birdbath
- Joan says she wrote an article about male and female cones
