As a real fan of illustrators of magazines and books, I thought I’d introduce a fun new feature of image posts of items old enough to be in the public commons–prior to 1923. This includes paintings as well. I’ll be looking for anything that goes along with our garden club themes, weather, whimsy, botanical drawings, etc.
With the next big storm system approaching in this most unusual February of cold weather snaps, this cover illustration from Good Housekeeping 1921 by Jessie Wilcox Smith brings to mind the weariness we’re feeling waiting for spring to arrive, yet the fun we had in the snow as children.
