Ellicott City–Another Round of Flooding

It seems like it was just a moment ago when the 2016 flood occurred and we were collecting money to help those afflicted by the water damage along Main St. in historic Ellicott City. Now, the afternoon before Memorial Day saw something close to 8 inches of rain fall and cause a roar of water to impact the same areas that rebuilt over the last two years.

We are often reminded of the importance of mitigating storm water issues, especially in densely populated areas through wise retention of natural areas of woods, fields and other permeable surfaces that would slow down and inhibit storm waters from doing such damage. This is where developers and city planners impact the situation.

Here is a letter from an Ellicott City resident sent in 2016 to Envision Frederick County (envisionfrederickcounty.org) which lays this out.

Ellicott City Flood: Stop calling it a natural disaster!

(This was slow loading for me this morning so I include a snapshot of the article below).
