In Carroll Garden Club many of us express ourselves through various outlets that focus our interests. Some belong to Master Gardeners and work with Women’s Club and maintain public spaces. I have been a member of the MidAtlantic Forum on Gardenweb for many years.
Every May there is a swap before Mother’s Day and I will have spent from March to May cajoling along seedlings under lights, potting them up and getting them used to sun. Yearly I tote one or two carloads of heirloom tomatoes, peppers and eggplants to this event where I am known affectionately as “The Tomato Lady”. I have been told that many swappers hold off going anyplace else in order to get their garden stock from me.
Why do it? I enjoy the whole process and I like to introduce people to different varieties they may never have tried before. And I too wander around a pick up free plants from other attendees. So we’re all happy.
