What did you do in the war, Mommy?

The day after Veteran’s Day, I found this interesting tidbit from a newspaper article from the WWII time frame. Without a doubt, garden clubs all over the United States helped promote the Victory Gardens and taught others what they needed to know about vegetable growing.  Even then, you can see how garden clubs wanted to steer toward what they thought would be the next direction by watching what drew interest. And even then, almost 70 years ago, the perennial problem was how to draw the younger generation!
