CGC Minutes, October 1935

The Carroll Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. William McKinstry for the October Meeting. The meeting was well attended, several visitors also being present.

In the absence of the President, the Vice President had charge of the meeting. The Club is indeed grateful to Mrs. Myers Englar for her efforts in returning from Washington (to which place it was necessary for her to go in the morning) in time for her to conduct the meeting.

This is My Father’s World was sung as the opening followed with the Minutes and answering of the Roll Call with flower suggestions.

An interesting account of a former meeting had been published in “The Garden Club Exchange”. We have Mrs. Stauffer to thank for reporting the account to the above mentioned paper.

The topic for the meeting was Chrysanthemums. Mrs.E.D. Meredith gave the first reading on them.

Mrs. Preston Myers gave interesting garden facts for the month.

This was followed by an instrumental solo by Miss Marianna Snader.

Mrs. G.S. La Forge read a most interesting paper on the plant life of Chrysanthemums.

The Legend of the Chrysanthemums was read by Miss Edna Fuss.

Mrs. J.E. Barnes also had an article on the same subject.

A piece on forcing Chrysanthemums was read by Mrs. Alfred Zollickhoffer.

We were very glad to have MRs Walter Stoves with us. She rendered a very pretty vocal solo.

Miss Dorothy Zumbrum gave highlights on Chrysanthemums.

Mrs, Marion Buckey and Miss Dorothy Zumbrum had charge of the Table Display for the month. They displayed bouquets suitable for end tables and small tables.

After this, the hostess served delightful refreshments. Mrs. G.S. La Forge invited the club to meet with her at her home in Middleburg in November,
