CGC May 1941

The May meeting of the Carroll Garden Club was held at the home of Mrs. G.E. LaForge. The meeting was opened by reading in unison the poem of the month. After the roll call the minutes were read and approved.

A card of appreciation from Mildred Zumbrum was read.

It was suggested that names for new members be given to the membership committee and that they be voted upon at the June meeting.

Mrs. Preston Myers reported that the trip to Robert Rowland’s where a large variety of wild flowers and antiques were seen was enjoyed by all.

The program of the afternoon which was in charge of the Misses Wolfe was as follows:

Poem: An Apple Blossom– Miss Anna Wolfe

Legend of the Apple–Mrs. Herbert Snyder

History of Arkansas–Miss Bessie Wolfe

Mountains of Arkansas–Mrs Stauffer

Wonder Cave–Mrs. Messler

The Arkansas Flag– Mrs. McKinstry

Culture and Recreation of Little Rock–Mrs. Preston Myers

Fruit of the State–Mrs. Edgar Myers

State Highway System–Mrs. Alfred Zollickhoffer

Industries–Mrs. Dowell

State Song–Arkansas–by Club

Each member had been asked to bring a flower arrangement in an antique container and after the Vice-President read a a paper–”Points to Check When Judging”– the club judged the flowers. Mrs. Wolfe and Zollickoffer tied for first place. Mrs. Myers and McKinstry tying for second.

After delicious refreshments were served by the hostess, the club adjourned.
